If there’s no such thing as a free lunch, how about free cooling?

Controlling the temperature inside the shelter is a high priority for improving the performance of the telecommunication equipment. Where there are electronics, there is electricity, which produces heat. Add that up with increasing heat densities and skyrocketing electricity bills, things get hotter. Apparently, cooling presents a great challenge to most operators today. This month’s edition we feature precision cooling and the addition of free cooling systems and intelligent controls that make a huge difference to operating costs.

Meet Terence Kioh, Application Engineer of Emerson Network Power in Asia. Terence is responsible for providing outdoor solutions including AC & DC power, mechanical structure, energy storage, precision cooling and monitoring for the company’s telecom customers.

“OPEX saving since then has become an important activity to improve profits. Free cooling is among the solutions that are increasingly being adapted by operators.” Read his profile

As energy prices continue to rise, operators are exploring every avenue for reducing energy consumption and cutting operating costs. Likewise, many are focused on how to cool a variety of equipment as reliably and economically as possible.

Next-generation networks deployed in shelters need to operate under a controlled temperature environment. Energy efficiency, total cost of ownership, maintenance, visibility and management of equipment are the challenges operators are facing. More

Telecom equipment is sensitive and thus housed in controlled enclosures or shelters. However, with new technologies like broadband, wireless Internet and so forth, heat dissipation densities have increased, raising the possibility of heat-related failure. More

Best in class products that display technology leadership, indoor and outside solutions that are modular but can be fully customized as well as network wide monitoring and Energy management solutions that integrate service support around Asia will be featured in future editions of CommsConnect.
