Emerson Network Power Wins Three Awards in TechTarget`s SearchDataCenter.com 2006 Products of the Year Program
Columbus, Ohio (March 8, 2007) β Emerson Network Power, a business of Emerson (NYSE: EMR) and the global leader in enabling Business-Critical Continuity™, announced today that three of its Liebert products were honored in TechTarget`s SearchDataCenter.com 2006 Products of the Year awards. In the Backup Power category, the Liebert FPC took silver, while the Liebert FS received a bronze award. The Liebert XDH won bronze honors in the Data Center Cooling category.
The awards were judged by the editors of TechTarget`s SearchDataCenter.com, in conjunction with a team of users, industry experts, analysts and consultants, on six criteria: innovation, performance, ease of integration into existing environments, ease of use and manageability, functionality and value. Judges selected among data center products introduced, upgraded and shipped between Oct. 31, 2005 and Nov. 1, 2006.
βIt is exciting to earn three awards from a respected industry publication and demanding team of judges," said Fred Stack, vice president of marketing, Liebert solutions, Emerson Network Power. "Each of these products is helping data center and facilities managers solve challenges, such as controlling heat density and energy costs, faced by organizations of all sizes. As part of a dynamic infrastructure, these products allow enterprises to meet their high-availability demands today while positioning the support systems for inevitable equipment growth down the road.β
In bestowing silver honors on the Liebert FPC, judges cited the power center`s two compact sizes, flexible breaker configurations, and full front and rear access as key attributes. Because the Liebert FPC fits within a row of racks, power cables run vertically below the racks, keeping cold aisles free from power cables and reducing the lengths of cables. Panel board options give the Liebert FPC flexibility to expand with growing data center systems.
The Liebert FPC power center is part of the Liebert Managed Power product line, a group of power distribution and switching systems designed to prevent disruptions between the UPS and the critical load, which are responsible for an estimated 80 percent of all power-related downtime. Components manage power from the UPS all the way to each individual piece of computing and communications hardware.
The judges honored the Liebert FS flywheel system with a bronze award for its innovation in kinetic energy storage. The Liebert FS stores DC energy in a rotating flywheel. This energy can be immediately converted to useful DC power to provide ride-through power and voltage stabilization during power disturbances. When used in parallel with batteries, the flywheel system eliminates their use for short power fluctuations, extending battery life and saving battery capacity for longer outages. The Liebert FS is 10 times more energy efficient than other flywheel systems and has a total cost of ownership that is 50 to 70 percent less than batteries throughout a 10-year period.
In awarding bronze honors in the Data Center Cooling category to the Liebert XDH, the judges noted that its "unique cooling, pumping and piping system delivers high-efficiency cooling by allowing the cooling components to be placed close to the source of heat." The newest addition to the Liebert XD family of supplemental data center cooling solutions, the Liebert XDH cooling solution is designed specifically for data center applications where there is limited overhead space because of overhead cabling or low ceiling height. The Liebert XDH fits easily within a row of electronic equipment racks within a hot-aisle-cold-aisle arrangement.
Employing an energy-efficient, waterless pumped refrigerant, the Liebert XDH can cool more than 30 kW per rack and features optional flexible piping with quick-connect fittings that allow adaptive and scalable expansion, and re-positioning without interruption of cooling. As a system, the Liebert XD family can direct more than 1,000 Watts per square foot of cooling to the source of heat, with energy savings of up to 30 percent compared to traditional data center cooling systems.
